Vegetables: When to Sell and Order
In an era marked by a growing emphasis on sustainability, self-sufficiency, and the farm-to-table movement, garden center owners are discovering the compelling benefits of diversifying their offerings to include vegetables.
In this dynamic landscape where consumers are increasingly drawn to the idea of growing their own food, garden centers have a unique opportunity to not only meet evolving consumer demands but also to carve out a niche that fosters deeper connections with their communities.
We offer vegetables in seedling trays. You can see a full list of our varieties here. These rooted plugs are rooted from seeds and will arrive to you ready to transplant into your retail pots.
Most vegetable plant sales can be seen in the summer months when customers are planting their gardens.
Once you’re established as the vegetable plant provider in your community, you can sell different vegetable plants throughout the year. From our research, here is what sells when.

When to Order
If you’re planning on selling vegetables in 6-packs, you’ll want to receive your vegetable seedlings 2-3 weeks before they’re ready to sell.
For larger containers like 1801 trays or 4-inch pots, you’ll want to receive your vegetable seedlings four weeks before they’re ready to sell.
If you’re planning on selling in gallon pots, the vegetable seedlings could take anywhere from 8-12 weeks to be ready to sell.
Keep in mind that certain vegetables, such as tomatoes, okra, squash, onions, and peppers, grow taller more quickly. Make sure to plan accordingly. If your vegetables get too tall for the container they’re in, you can transplant them into a larger container and sell them for a higher price.
