Ordering Tags: What to Expect
When you add tags to your order, what should you expect? This blog explains how to know what kind of tags you are ordering, where you can find them in your box, and how we handle backorders.
What are tags?
Tags are labels to help mark individual pots and hanging baskets. In most cases, the tag will have a picture of the plant, list the variety name, and share helpful growing tips. These tags are about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long. The industry name for them is “pixie tags”. We sell tags for $4.50 per bundle of 100 or $0.045 per tag. If you order less than the pre-bundled 100 the price becomes $0.07 per tag. The smallest number of tags we can send is 25 per variety. We are not able to send smaller amounts (ex. 1, 5, 10) of any kind.
Know What Kind of Tags You’re Ordering
Most of our tags are variety-specific, but there are some varieties that we can only offer generic tags. Let’s look at Belgian Mums for an example. We are currently carrying over 200 different varieties of Mums. We simply do not have the space to store specific tags for all those varieties. But we know how big of a deal it is to mark the different colors of your mums, so we order in color-specific tags. If you order Mum tags, you’ll receive tags for Yellow, Pink/Lavender, Bronze/Orange, White, or Red Mums.
We’ve made it easy to see what you’re getting on our website. If you click on a product page, you will see an option for tags over to the right at the top of the page. If you do not see an option for tags, this means we do not offer tags for that specific product. But this is rare.
Under the bolded words that read “Tag Quantity,” you’ll see any notes that identify a generic tag. The three options here are Generic Category Specific, Generic Color Specific, and Variety-Specific. The Variety-Specific will have no notations.
Generic Category Specific refers to a tag that only says the plant type. Diascia is one family that we only offer a Generic Category Specific tag. The tag you will receive will read simple “Diascia.” Our Combo trays are Generic Category Specific as well, and their tags just read “Combo.”
Generic Color Specific refers to a tag that says the plant type and color. These are the tags I was talking about for the Belgian Mums. These tags will list the plant type and color. Example: “Belgian Mum Yellow.”
Variety-Specific tags, of course, tell you exactly which variety you ordered.
If you do not want generic tags of any type, please let us know. We can make a note on your order so that we do not ship any generic tags.
Where to Find Tags in Your Box
We send your tags with your plants unless the tags are out of stock. You will find your tags in one of two places. If the tray count on order is uneven, we will place the tags in a webbed tray and pack them in the empty space left in the box. If the tray count on order is even, we will place the tags in a webbed tray and pack this webbed tray underneath one of your trays. Look for this paper marking where you can find your tags.
But remember, we’re human. So if you do not find your tags under this paper, please search the box. They may be hiding from you.
Backorders
Ever since we started carrying tags, we’ve battled backorders. We try to have as much stock on site as we can, but sometimes we run out. In the end, it comes down to a space issue. We’re at max capacity in our tag bins. Nevertheless, we’re continuously working to reduce backorders.
We order tags weekly, but it takes 3-4 weeks to get the tags in. We understand how frustrating it is not to receive tags with your plants. We will do all we can to work with you in these situations, but we suggest having a roll of blank tags on hand for those emergency circumstances.
If we have the option available, we can send generic tags in place of the out-of-stock Variety-Specific tags. If you are open to this option, please let us know when you place your order. We’ve noticed a lot of our customers do not like the generic tags, so our first choice is usually to backorder.
In Conclusion
We work hard to make the tag program as efficient as possible because we know how important tags are to our customers. We’re excited about the future and look forward to continuing to improve for you.
